TOP OF CHAPTER
Rogue River
The Rogue is a legendary white-water river that flows from its headwaters at Crater Lake
to its terminus at Gold Beach, on the Pacific Ocean - 215 miles total. A good stretch of
the river has been designated 'wild and scenic' (thus protected), and celebrities such as
Zane Grey and Ginger Rogers have lived along its banks. The Rogue is prized for awe-
some steelhead and trout fishing, along with exceptional hiking, but it's also famous for
world-class rafting.
For the serious adventurer, the Rogue offers everything from pulse-thumping class IV
rapids near the Wild Rogue Wilderness to more gentle waters upriver. A convenient base
is the busy city of Grants Pass ( Click here ) . For those more into an afternoon float amid
natural surroundings, there's the Shady Cove area.
