Cave Creek Campground CAMPGROUND$
( 541-592-4000; campsites $10) About 15 miles up Hwy 46, this campground is nearly 4
miles from the caves and has a 1.8-mile trail leading there. There are vault toilets, picnic
tables and drinking water; no showers or hookups.
Out 'n' About Treesort TREE HOUSE$$$

$120-300; ) A must for families with inquisitive kids, this rustic but fun place offers 15
different tree houses, from small, round rooms 47ft up, to more terrestrial suites with kit-
chens. Some share outside bathrooms. Zip lines and horseback riding are available, and
minimum-night stays apply in summer. It's in Takilma, 12 miles south of Cave Junction.
Reservations are crucial.
Oregon Caves Chateau HOTEL$$$

late Sep) Situated near the cave's entrance, this impressive, historic lodge has huge win-
dows facing the forest, 23 simple, vintage rooms and a fine dining room (mains $21 to
$30) overlooking a plunging ravine; the dining room is open mid-May through Septem-
ber from 5.30pm to 8pm nightly. Snacks and great milkshakes are served at the old-fash-
ioned soda fountain. The cafe is open 7am to 5pm daily the same months as the dining
room; mains are $8 to $12.
Taylor's Country Store DELI$

Mon-Thu, till 8:30pm Fri, 7am-7pm Sat, 8am-7pm Sun) Wonderfully local joint with tables sur-
rounded by large meat counter and refrigerated cases. Good for breakfast, while lunch
means hot or cold deli sandwiches and burgers. Fancier dinners on weekends, with live
music Friday evenings.
Wild River Brewing & Pizza Co PIZZERIA$$$
( 541-592-3556; www.wildriverbrewing.com ; 249 Redwood Hwy; pizzas $12-25; 11am-9pm)
Another link in this small but good restaurant chain. There are large family tables inside,
but if it's sunny, the back deck (overlooking a creek) is the place to be. Also lots of sand-
wiches.
