In-Depth Information
For the area's biggest dunes (including the tallest at 500ft), take the John Dellenbeck
Trail , 10.5 miles south of Reedsport, which leads out across a wilderness of massive sand
peaks before reaching the beach. The round-trip hike is 6 miles and involves some tough
dune climbing, though there's a 1-mile interpretive loop on packed gravel if you just
want to take a look.
LOCAL KNOWLEDGE
HALL LAKE
Want to know where the locals go? Then just take Wildwood Dr, directly across
from William M Tugman State Park, go half a mile and you'll see the sign for Hall
Lake Day Use Area on your left. You can walk around the lake in about a half-hour,
climbing sand dunes along the way for an ocean view; in the future, the trail might
extend to encircle nearby Schuttpelz Lake.
