Skiing
The Willamette Pass Resort ( 541-345-7669; www.willamettepass.com ; Hwy 58; lift tickets
adult/child 6-10yr $49/30) , 70 miles southeast of Eugene and 70 miles southwest of Bend,
has steep slopes and great views. Most of the 29 runs are rated intermediate to advanced,
with a vertical drop of 1563ft. Six-person gondolas run all year for both skiers and
hikers/mountain bikers. The Pacific Crest Trail is less than a mile away (no bikes).
The resort also has 12 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails. Odell Lake is another
popular spot for cross-country skiing.
Sleeping
There are many campgrounds in the area.
Westfir Lodge LODGE$
( 541-782-3103; www.westfirlodge.com ; 47365 1st St, Westfir; d $75-90; ) A stone's throw
from Oregon's longest covered bridge is this spacious lodge with eight homey guest
rooms, one of them an eight-bed dorm ($30 per bed). Some rooms share baths down the
hall. Check out the central vault, left over from when this building used to be a lumber
company office. Breakfast costs extra.
Odell Lake Resort LODGE, CAMPGROUND$

ins $100-320; ) This casual family resort has small lodge rooms with a pleasant
common living room. Also available are about a dozen cabins, each with kitchen and
fireplace, that sleep up to 16. There's a restaurant, along with bike and boat rentals.
Located 6 miles east of Willamette Pass and just off Hwy 58, right on Odell Lake.
North Waldo Lake Campground CAMPGROUND$
(off USFS Rd 5897; campsites $20; Jun-Oct) Campgrounds don't get much better than this
lovely and rustic spot on Waldo Lake, but bring repellant. Located 11 miles off Hwy 58
near the end of USFS Rd 5898.
Willamette Pass Inn MOTEL$$$
( 541-433-2211; www.willamettepassinn.com ; 19821 Hwy 58; d Sun-Thu $96-120, Fri, Sat & holi-
days $112-135, cabins $155; ) This is the closest motel to the ski area, with very spa-
cious and beautiful rooms, most boasting fireplaces and kitchenettes. Privately owned
cabins are also available. It's 7 miles east of Willamette Pass.
