for loggers and ranchers, Sisters is today a bustling tourist destination whose main street
is lined with boutiques, art galleries and eateries housed in Western-facade buildings.
Visitors come for the mountain scenery, spectacular hiking, fine cultural events and fant-
astic climate - there's plenty of sun and little precipitation here. And while the town's at-
mosphere is a bit upscale, people are still friendly and the back streets still undeveloped
enough that deer are often seen nibbling in neighbors' garden plots.
Festivals & Events
Sisters Rodeo CARNIVAL
( 800-827-7522; www.sistersrodeo.com ; 2nd weekend Jun) The town shows its cowboy
spirit at the Sisters Rodeo, complete with parade, toe-tappin' music and rodeo queens.
Outdoor Quilt Show CULTURE
( 541-549-0989; www.sistersoutdoorquiltshow.org ; mid-Jul) A month after the rodeo is
the wildly popular Outdoor Quilt Show. Over a thousand quilts are on display throughout
the packed-out town, including many hung up outside buildings.
Sleeping
Unless you camp, sleeping in Sisters is expensive; head to Bend (19 miles southeast) for
budget motels. Nonreservable campsites (without showers) are available at the pleasant
City Park Camping (tent sites $15, RV sites $15-40) , at the southern end of Sisters. Reserve
accommodations in summer - but especially during weekends and festivals, when prices
can skyrocket.
Band/Sisters Garden RV Resort CAMPGROUND$

$58-73, cottages $175; ) Comfortable sites about 3.5 miles southeast of Sisters and 15
miles northwest of Bend. Fun activities include mini-golf, a fishing pond and a swim-
ming pool with hot tub; there's also a store.
Five Pine Lodge HOTEL$$$

) Five Pine is a superb Craftsman-style lodge with gorgeous, luxurious rooms,
most of which have two floors, fireplace and balcony or patio, plus bathtubs that open to
