$126-315; ) Just across the bridge from Metolius River Resort is this casual place with
13 cozy and comfy cabins - both attached and stand-alone - right next to the river. Many
have kitchens and fireplaces, and some boast decks over the water (the Salmonfly cabin
has the best view).

) More like small houses, the 11 lovely cabins at this pleasant spot all have two bed-
rooms and well-equipped kitchens. They sleep two to six people and each is decorated
differently (as they're owned by different people). The river is nearby.
Kokanee Cafe NORTHWESTERN$$$

at the Metolius River Resort, this log-cabin restaurant offers fine Northwestern cuisine
that includes the use of game, organic meats and wild fish. Dishes include things like
seafood fettuccine, lamb shank and roasted salmon. Eclectic wine list. Reserve ahead.

Hoodoo Mountain Resort
Oregon's oldest downhill ski area ( 541-822-3799; www.hoodoo.com ; Hwy 20; regular lift
tickets adult/child 6-12yr $45/31) is 25 miles northwest of Sisters at the crest of the Cas-
cades. Though it's small, Hoodoo has variety in its terrain, with good snow and some
surprisingly challenging skiing. For conditions call 541-822-3337.
There's night skiing Friday and Saturday. Hoodoo also has groomed cross-country ski
trails (Nordic pass $14), though many free, ungroomed trails start at the Sno-Parks near
Santiam Pass.
