Warm Springs Indian Reservation
Home to three Native America groups - the Wasco, the Warm Springs and the Paiute -
Warm Springs Indian Reservation stretches from the peaks of the Cascades in the west to
the banks of the Deschutes River to the east. The Wasco and Warm Springs tribes were
confined here after a treaty with the US government in 1855; the Paiute were moved here
after the Bannock War of 1878.
The Pi Ume Sha Treaty Days Celebration is held on the third weekend of June at
Warm Springs, with competitive dancing, horse races and a rodeo. For details contact the

Don't miss the excellent Warm Springs Museum ( 541-553-3331;

tifacts, audiovisual presentations and re-created villages.

cially sun-starved Portlanders. Facilities include a hotel, a spa, a golf course, tennis
courts, horseback riding, kayaking, fishing and a double-Olympic-size spring-fed pool;
there's a $5 day-use parking fee.
