Big event weekends means skyrocketing hotel prices; check ahead. There are plenty of
chain motels and hotels in town.
Windrider Inn GUESTHOUSE$
( 541-296-2607; www.windriderinn.com ; 200 West 4th St; d $45-59; ) For a very casu-
al stay, there's this small guesthouse with a hostel-like feel. Mostly long-term guests stay
here, especially in the summer, when it's usually booked; call a few days ahead to see if
anything's open. All rooms have private bath, but only two are en suite. Kitchen use and
small pool available. No breakfast.
Celilo Inn BOUTIQUE MOTEL$$$
( 541-769-0001; www.celiloinn.com ; 3550 E 2nd St; d from $139; ) The beautifully
remodeled Celilo Inn was once an old motel, but is now a slick and trendy stay with gor-
geous contemporary rooms, many offering views of The Dalles' bridge and dam (worth
it at only $10 to $20 more). Luxurious touches include flat-screen TVs and a cool pool
for those guaranteed hot summer days. Discount on weekdays.
Cousins' Country Inn MOTEL$$$
( 800-848-9378; www.cousinscountryinn.com ; 2114 West 6th St; d $85-159; ) This
upscale motel offers 97 beautiful modern rooms, the fanciest (in 'The Barn') with gas
fireplace, outdoor deck or patio and huge shower stalls with triple heads. Even regular
rooms have flat-screen TVs, and some come with kitchenette. The swimming pool is a
plus, and the restaurant with 'saloon' is just across the parking lot.

Petite Provence CAFE$
( 541-506-0037; 408 East 2nd St; mains $9-12; 7am-3pm) It's a little taste of Paris in The
Dalles. One of a few branches in the region, this attractive cafe-bistro serves up luscious
pastries, along with tasty breakfast treats and gourmet sandwiches, salads and soups for
lunch. Fancy dinners are offered the first Friday and Saturday of the month (mains $13 to
$19).
