Day hikes also reach the calm, emerald-colored Tamolitch Pool (aka Blue Pool) from
the south. To reach the trailhead, turn off Hwy 126 at Trail Bridge Reservoir, following
the gravel road to the right. The 2-mile trail passes through a mossy lava flow before
coming upon the mighty McKenzie River surging up in a cliff-lined bowl of rock.
Fishing
The McKenzie River is one of the best fishing streams in Oregon, and the slower water
and deep pools west of Blue River also offer good fishing. Check regulations with the

Rafting
White-water rafting trips are popular on the McKenzie River's class I to III rapids from
April to October. High Country Expeditions ( 888-461-7238; www.hcexpeditions.com ;
59296 N Belknap Springs Rd, McKenzie Bridge) and Oregon Whitewater Adventures (
800-820-7238; www.oregonwhitewater.com ; 39620 Deerhorn Rd, Springfield) operate on the
McKenzie.
Sleeping
There are many lovely summer campgrounds ( 877-444-6777; www.recreation.gov ; camp-
sites $10-20) in the area, which include Paradise (old-growth grove near white water),
McKenzie Bridge (Douglas fir and cedar trees), Delta (scenic and enchanting) and Ice
Cap Creek (a cliff-top location near a reservoir and waterfalls). Limited reservations are

these rustic lakeside cabins, which are great if you like roughing it (just a little). More

Rowboat rentals available. Bring all bedding, towels, food and cooking gear.
