In-Depth Information
Heart
CAFE
( 503-206-6602;
www.heartroasters.com
; 2211 E Burnside St; 7am-7pm)
Artsy-industrial
atmosphere on busy E Burnside; check out its large visible roaster. A bit too hipster-y for
some, and service can be spotty, but most of the beans are well (and lightly) roasted.
Courier Coffee Roasters
CAFE
( 503-545-6444;
www.couriercoffeeroasters.com
; 923 SW Oak St; 7am-5pm Mon-Fri,
9am-4pm Sat & Sun)
Small-batch roaster with friendly baristas and a great macchiato.
Exceptional pastries too. Go for an iced drink on a hot day. It's a small space, so don't
expect to hang out too long. It delivers its roasted beans by cargo bike, among other sus-
tainable practices.

Doug Fir Lounge
LIVE MUSIC
( 503-231-9663;
www.dougfirlounge.com
;
830 E Burnside St)
Paul Bunyan meets the Jetsons
at this ultratrendy venue that has transformed the LoBu (lower Burnside) neighborhood
from seedy to slick. Doug Fir books edgy, hard-to-get talent, drawing crowds from tat-
tooed youth to suburban yuppies. Its decent restaurant has long hours; located next to the
rock-star-quality Jupiter Hotel.
Mississippi Studios
LIVE MUSIC
( 503-288-3895;
www.mississippistudios.com
;
3939 N Mississippi Ave)
Recently expanded but
still intimate; good for checking out budding acoustic talent, along with more established
musical groups. Excellent sound system and good restaurant-bar with patio next door.
Located right on trendy N Mississippi Ave.
