fine antiques and flowery decoration. All seven rooms come with private bathroom (one
has its private bathroom down the hall), and the large basement apartment has a kit-
chenette. This gay-friendly place is close to shops, bars, cafes and the MAX. Discounts
outside summer.
Eating
Portland has become nationally recognized for its food scene, with dozens of young, top-
notch chefs pushing the boundaries of ethnic and regional cuisines. Casual clothes are ac-
ceptable even at higher-end places, where reservations are a good idea.
Fast-food lovers should consider looking up the various branches of Burgerville (local,
seasonal ingredients; www.burgerville.com ) and Laughing Planet (vegetarian-friendly
burritos; www.laughingplanetcafe.com ), but the city's best fast food is dished up at the
more than 600 food carts.
