Oregon Zoo ZOO

9am-6pm; ) In summer ride the Zoo Train from the rose gardens to this excellent and
beautiful zoo. There's a primate house, a 'penguinarium' and a large African animals
area, among many other impressive exhibits. Enclosures are spacious and seminatural,
and big-name concerts take place on the zoo's lawns in summer. But despite its excel-
lence, the zoo is reinventing itself - in future years, a California condor exhibit and an
extensive elephant exhibit are set to open (along with others). Hours vary seasonally.
Children's Museum MUSEUM

Parents can seek solace at this museum, a great place to keep kids busy with interesting
learning activities and exhibits. There's a clay studio, a construction zone, a 'grocery
store,' a pet hospital and a baby room for kids under three, plus more.
World Forestry Center FORESTRY INTERPRETATION CENTER

10am-5pm; ) The center highlights the importance of the world's forests, with a focus
on Pacific Northwest forests and their role in providing water, recreation, habitat and re-
sources.
Hoyt Arboretum GARDEN

9am-4pm Mon-Fri, 11am-3pm Sat & Sun) Twelve miles of trails wind through this
187-acre ridgetop garden above the city zoo. It's home to over 6000 species of both nat-
ive and exotic plants and trees, and offers easy walks any time of year.
Portland Audubon Society SANCTUARY

10am-6pm Mon-Sat, to 5pm Sun) Nestled in a gulch beside Forest Park, the Wildlife Care
Center here treats injured native wildlife. You can also visit the nature store, then walk
along 4.5 miles of forested trails in the nature sanctuary.
