In-Depth Information
Whitehouse-Crawford Restaurant FUSION$$$
$$$
( 509-525-2222; www.whitehousecrawford.com ; 55 W Cherry St; mains from $20; 5-10pm
Wed-Mon) If you're feeling flush, bypass the town's ample cafes and make a beeline for
this fine-dining establishment housed in an impressively renovated 1905 woodworking
mill. Great local seafood and produce highlight the seasonally (and daily) varying menu.
Marc FRENCH$$$
$$$
( 509-525-2200; www.marcuswhitmanhotel.com ; 6 W Rose St; mains from $20) Widely lauded
fine dining in the Marcus Whitman hotel; try to bag the private chef's table in the kit-
chen, where you'll get a special meal prepared for you as you watch.
Drinking
Laht Neppur BREWPUB
(53 S Spokane St) This place is totally devoid of any wine-town pretension but full of stuff
every small-town brewpub should have: friendly locals, laughter, sports on TV and pea-
nut shells on the floor. The decent beer is brewed in nearby Waitsburg, but skip the food.
Coffee Perk CAFE
(4 1st St; ) A student hangout notable for its giant old-fashioned bookcase stocked with
everything from Dickens to Mark Twain's Innocents Abroad . If the literature doesn't
perk you up, the coffee will.
Entertainment
Walla Walla Symphony CLASSICAL MUSIC
( www.wwsymphony.com ) Yes, the supposed rural backwater of Walla Walla has had a sym-
phony orchestra since 1907 and the group is currently led by musical director Yaacov
Bergman. Tackling everything from Holst to Gershwin, it runs an annual six-concert
series in the Cordiner Hall at Whitman College.
Harper Joy Theatre THEATER
(N Park St & Boyer Ave; adult/senior $12/8) Walla Walla's culture vultures wander over to
Whitman College's theater department for renditions of Shakespeare, Rodgers and Ham-
merstein, and plenty of local fare.
