In-Depth Information
Wrens Nest B&B B&B$$$
( 509-925-9061; www.wrensnest.com ; 300 E Manitoba Ave; r from $90) This is a typical
small-town B&B encased in a 1912 Craftsman-style home. Experienced B&Bers will ap-
preciate the familiar touches: welcome tea and cookies, beyond-the-call-of-duty service,
individually furnished rooms, relaxed guest-to-guest interaction and substantial (and cre-
ative) breakfasts.
Eating & Drinking
Yellow Church Café FUSION$$$
( www.yellowchurchcafe.com ; 111 S Pearl St; brunch $8-10, dinner $13-23; 11am-8pm Mon-Fri,
8am-8pm Sat & Sun) This homey bright-yellow former church built by the German Luther-
ans in 1923 is now an unconventional restaurant that serves urban hipster-worthy food.
The breakfast - including the aptly named St Benedict's eggs - has won widespread re-
commendations, while the elegant dinner options have been well matched with local
wines from the expert owners, who also run the nearby Guesthouse Ellensburg.
Valley Café FUSION$$$
( www.valleycafeellensburg.com ; 105 W 3rd Ave; dinner mains $16-25) This diminutive art-deco
construction, in business since 1938, has a restaurant and cafe, along with an excellent
selection of Washington wines, nicely paired with the accompanying food. Check out the
cioppino, the rack of lamb or the ahi tuna. The interior is furnished with unpretentious
booths and there's also a takeout section.
D&M Coffee CAFE
( www.dmcoffee.com ; 301 N Pine St; 7am-5pm) With allegedly more coffee bars per
head than anywhere else in the US, you're certainly spoiled for choice when it comes to
satisfying your morning caffeine habit in Ellensburg. D&M is the local roasting com-
pany, and the best of its quintet of local outlets is situated here, opposite the Kittitas
County Museum. Funky stools and an academic atmosphere make it an ideal place to
linger.
Iron Horse Micropub BREWPUB
(414 N Main St; beers on tap from $4; 4-9pm Mon-Sat) The downtown outpost for one of
the region's best microbreweries is a bright and hip, albeit small pub serving eight beers
on tap and snacks. You can also check out the larger main brewery at 1000 Prospect St,
about a mile from the town center.
