pool and hot tub, while the suite rooms upstairs have huge Jacuzzi baths wedged into a
cozy Bavarian turret.
Bavarian Ritz HOTEL$$$
( 509-548-5455; 633 Front St; d/ste $89/240; ) Wedged into Bavarian-style Front
St, the Ritz is a vintage 1903 inn that was reincarnated in Leavenworth's 1960s German
makeover. Promoting a wide selection of room types and a couple of decent downstairs
restaurants, the facilities fall short of luxury status, though the vista-studded sundeck and
the extravagant four-poster beds in the Royal King suites should keep visiting Europhiles
happy.
Leavenworth Village Inn HOTEL$$$
( 509-548-6620; www.leavenworthvilageinn.com ; 1016 Commercial St; d/ste from $79/159; )
Huge rooms at economical prices. Recent remodeling has ensured that this place is both
modern and bereft of the frilly German touches ubiquitous elsewhere in town.
Run of the River Inn B&B$$$
$$$
( 509-548-7171; www.runoftheriver.com ; 9308 E Leavenworth Rd; ste from $230; ) A romant-
ic dream: welcome to a stress-free, kid-free, smoke-free B&B where all the rooms are
suites and breakfast is the tastiest and largest meal of the week. The suites are pure lux-
ury, with Jacuzzis, fluffy bathrobes, fireplaces, hiking gear, binoculars (the inn is next to
a bird refuge) and an old-fashioned typewriter just in case guests get poetically inspired.
Very special.

München Haus GERMAN$
( www.munchenhaus.com ; 709 Front St; snacks from $6; 11am-11pm May-Oct, closed Mon-Fri
Nov-Apr; ) The Haus is 100% alfresco, meaning that the hot German sausages and pret-
zels served up here are essential stomach-warmers in the winter, while the Bavarian
brews do a good job of cooling you down in the summer. The casual beer-garden atmo-
sphere is complemented by vibrant flower baskets, laid-back staff and a stash of top-
quality relishes including cider kraut and mustard to spice up your bratwurst. There are
even vegan varieties.
