Stehekin Valley Ranch CABIN$$$
$$$
( 509-682-4677; www.stehekinvalleyranch.com ; tent/ranch cabins per person $100/120; )
All number of activities go on at this well-organized place 9 miles upriver from the boat
landing, including cycling, horseback riding, kayaking and hiking. Even better, the price
for lodging in the ranch's rustic cabins includes all meals at one of Stehekin's few proper
dining establishments, along with a bus to get there.
Tent cabins are simple, canvas-topped affairs, with screened windows and showers in
a nearby building. Ranch cabins have private bathrooms.
North Cascades Lodge at Stehekin HOTEL$$$
$$$
( 509-682-4494; www.lodgeatstekehin.com ; r $162-202, kitchen units $182-222; )
Located next to the ferry landing, the 28 varied rooms here have lush lake views. The
location is enough to make staying here an amazing experience, but it's rustic for the
price and service can be grumpy. There's a recreation room (with TV), restaurant, hot tub
and the village's only tiny grocery store. Sit back and switch your brain off.
Eating
There are only three places to eat in Stehekin: the two listed here as well as the restaurant
in the Stehekin Landing Resort.
Stehekin Pastry Company CAFE, BAKERY$
( www.stehekinpastry.com ; Stehekin Valley Rd; pastries $2-6) In a large city this improbable cof-
fee and pastry shop would do a roaring trade. Out in the middle of a wilderness area it
appears like a mirage and is guaranteed to give fresh ardor to even the most challenging
of hikes. Two miles up the valley from the boat landing, this is where to come for es-
presso, cinnamon buns, pies and baked-from-scratch pastries. You can take the 'bakery
special' shuttle service to get there.
Stehekin Valley Ranch TRADITIONAL$$$
( 509-682-4677; www.stehekinvalleyranch.com ; mains breakfast & lunch $5-8, dinner $13-18;
breakfast, lunch & dinner ) Reservations are required here for the daily set dinner menu
(there's a $3 shuttle service from the dock to the lodge at 5:30pm). Grill items like bur-
gers (beef and veggie) and fish are also available.
