Walking
Buckner Orchard is one of the Stehekin area's oldest homesteads and makes for a re-
freshing walk. Once there, you'll find a homestead cabin built in 1889, plenty of old farm
equipment and hundred-year-old trees that keep on bearing apples. Head 3.4 miles up
Stehekin Valley Rd, turn left at the far end of the Rainbow Creek bridge and look for a
sign about 20yd off the road, marking the Buckner Orchard Walk , an easy 1-mile round
trip to the apple orchards. Park rangers offer guided walks here at 2.15pm at weekends in
the summer. From just past the bridge, there's also a short path leading to Rainbow
Falls .
Boating
Stehekin Outfitters ( Click here ) offers rafting trips on the Stehekin River in spring and
summer, as well as two-hour kayaking trips on Lake Chelan (adult/child $35/20).
Cycling
You can rent bikes from Discovery Bikes ( www.stehekindiscoverybikes.com ; per hour/day
$4/20) , five minutes from the dock. Prices include helmets, racks and maps. Discovery
Bikes can also shuttle cyclists and their bikes up the road to the Stehekin Valley Ranch,
which is just far enough to bike back down the valley in time to catch the 2pm boat back
to Chelan.
Fishing
The lower Stehekin River is open for seasonal catch-and-release fishing, with cutthroat
and rainbow trout living in the upper river. Stehekin Fishing Adventures
