Mt Baker Legendary Banked Slalom

The iconic slalom is one of the world's premier snowboard events
and has been won by the biggest names in the sport. Inaugurated inauspiciously in 1985,
it takes place in a natural river gully doubling as a half-pipe in early February.
Sleeping
The Baker area doesn't have many private lodges or motel-hotels. However, there are
plenty of cottages, chalets and cabins for short-term rent (minimum is usually two

available in the Upper Skagit River Valley on the drive up towards the mountain.
Douglas Fir Campground

An attractive USFS campground on
scenic Hwy 542 and the North Fork Nooksack River. It's located 3 miles east of Glacier,
making it handy for sorties to the village store and restaurant. Drinking water and pit toi-

ground on Hwy 542, the Silver Fir is equally scenic though a little more remote from
Glacier. There are pit toilets and drinking water.

When Mt
Baker breaks through the clouds, the views from this attractive, well-run B&B are unsur-
passable. It's situated 7 miles east of Maple Falls, and uncluttered rooms and ample sky-
lights give it an airy feel. Breakfast is taken on a spectacular deck - weather permitting -
in the summer.
When it gets stormy you can enjoy heated floors, comfortable rocking chairs and a
cozy communal reading room. No kids.
