Part museum,
part local landmark, this ornate Victorian mansion was built in 1897 on a hill above
Hoquiam by lumber tycoon Robert Lytle. The lavish furnishings and period details look
like something out of a Scooby Doo cartoon and include lots of dark wood, delicate an-
tiques and even a fully working Victorian bathroom. Tours leave most days at 3pm, but
call in advance to be sure.
Arnold Polson Museum

Built in 1924 by one of the timber barons of Hoquiam, this 26-room edi-
fice is filled with period furniture, clothing, a doll collection and logging implements.

Beware; the twin towns' motels can be gritty. The Olympic's standout features are that
it's clean and recently upgraded and has Belgian waffles for breakfast. Not so gritty after
all.
