In-Depth Information
La Push
La Push, 12 miles west of Forks on Hwy 110, is a small fishing village at the mouth of
the Quillayute River and home of the Quileute Indian tribe, some of the peninsula's old-
est inhabitants and the modern-day inspiration for the werewolves in the Twilight series.
Known for its raw, untamed beaches, La Push is popular with surfers and sea
kayakers, who love to ride the dramatic Pacific waves, especially in January. Outside of
this, the settlement is revered primarily for its remoteness and isolation (despite a recent
influx of Twilight hunters). Tracking north along the Mora road will bring you to Rialto
Beach and the start of a 20-mile coastal hike north to Cape Alava. Just outside of La
Push are the trailheads to rugged and beautiful Third and Second Beaches (1.4 miles and
0.8 miles, respectively). Third Beach is the starting point for a popular three-day beach
hike to Oil City, 17 miles south, at the edge of the Hoh Indian Reservation.
