Eating & Drinking
In keeping with their salutary 'waves,' Lopezians are congenial and hospitable people
who are always happy to engage visitors in casual chitchat. Hang around in one of the
village's small cafes and you'll soon be on first-name terms with half the island. All of
Lopez' eating places are on the main drag in tiny Lopez Village.
Holly B's Bakery BAKERY$
( www.hollybsbakery.com ; Lopez Rd; pastries around $3; Apr-Nov) Holly's heads the early-
morning latte and pastry rush while harnessing the slow island vibe and thus remaining
effortlessly low key. The seasonal fruit pastries are worthy of any swanky Seattle patis-
serie.
Bay Cafe SEAFOOD$$$
( 360-468-3700; www.bay-cafe.com ; 9 Old Post Rd; mains $14-30; 5-9pm Wed-Fri, noon-9pm
Sat & Sun) Lopez' one and only attempt at fine dining offers romantic sunset views
right on the water, with classic fish dishes, including chowder and crab cakes. You could
also go bolder with specialties like truffled mac 'n' cheese or rack of lamb paired with
wine from the local vineyard.
Cafe La Boheme CAFE$
(Lopez Rd; 7am-4pm) Puffed cushions and Middle Eastern-style sofas lure you into this
tiny caffeine station, where you can listen to a cacophony of chatter - everything from
local gossip to the merits of biodiesel versus gas - over coffee and cookies.
Isabel's Espresso CAFE$
(Lopez Rd; 7:30am-5pm) A retro wood-paneled coffee bar that offers a fine selection of
java coffee, herbal teas and fruit shakes, and features colorful furnishings and a small
book collection. It's the most hippie-hip of the island's coffee-shop choices.
Vortex Juice Bar JUICE BAR
(Lopez Rd S; lunch dishes $5-9; 10am-7pm Jun-Sep, to 6pm Oct-May) Fresh juices are Vor-
tex's forte, made with whatever fruits and vegetables are on hand. Above-average salads
and wraps are among its other healthy offerings.
