Island County Historical Society Museum MUSEUM
(908 NW Alexander St; admission $3; 10am-5pm May-Sep, to 4pm Fri-Mon Oct-Apr) The is-
land's most comprehensive museum has plenty of local historical testimonies showcased
in meticulous and well-presented display cases. Also on offer are self-guided walking-
tour maps of Coupeville's vintage homes. The helpful staff can also enlighten you on the
highlights of Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve.
Whidbey's Greenbank Berry Farm FARM
( www.greenbankfarm.com ; Hwy 525, off Wonn Rd; 10am-5pm) Go 10 miles south of
Coupeville to find the world's largest producer of loganberries, a sweet, blackish berry
rather like a black raspberry. The winery-style farm is open daily for touring, tasting and
picnicking.

Captain Whidbey Inn INN$$$
( 360-678-4097; www.captainwhidbey.com ; 2072 W Captain Whidbey Inn Rd; r with shared bath
from $103, cabins from $210; ) The beautifully forest-clad Captain Whidbey is a 1907 inn
built entirely out of madrone (arbutus) wood. With its low ceilings, creaky floors and
cozy lounge strewn with faded copies of National Geographic, it feels more like
something out of a medieval forest than a 21st-century tourist island.
Lodging is in 12 sea-galleon-style guest rooms in the main lodge, as well as wood-
heated cottages and a more modern building with verandahs facing a lagoon.
Anchorage Inn B&B$$$
( 360-678-5581; www.anchorage-inn.com ; 807 N Main St; r $99-159; ) Continuing the
Northwestern penchant for Victorian-style B&Bs, this place comes up trumps with plenty
of lace curtains, patterned wallpaper and old-fashioned upright chairs. Seven rooms with
private baths are encased in a turreted house overlooking Penn Cove; the owners even
run a course on inn-keeping. With so much fine china on display, children under 10
aren't permitted.
