Boeing Factory & Everett
One of the Seattle area's most worthwhile outlying sights is the
Future of Flight Avi-
ation Center & Boeing Tour
( 1-800-464-1476;

;
8415 Paine Field Blvd;
adult/child $18/12; 8:30am-5:30pm)
in the city of Everett, 25 miles north of Seattle. Ser-
ving as a good complement to Georgetown's Museum of Flight, the center, aside from its
museum, offers something different: a tour of the real working Boeing factory where the
famous airplanes are made. The huge complex is the world's most voluminous building,
meaning that the 90-minute tours involve plenty of traveling around, some of it by bus.
Getting to the center without a car can be a pain, but you can save time by partaking in
which picks up from downtown hotels. It charges $65/49 per adult/child, including ad-
mission. No cameras are allowed.

Bellevue, Kirkland & Redmond
Bellevue, on the eastern shores of Lake Washington, is an upscale burg with high-income
housing, attractive parks and some interesting shops and boutiques. Civic and social life
centers on Bellevue Sq, at Bellevue Way NE and NE 8th St, the shopping mall that sets
the tone for downtown and the surrounding communities. Across from the mall is the
Bellevue Art Museum
( 425-519-0770;

;
510 Bellevue Way NE; adult/re-
duced $10/7, 1st Fri of month free;
11am-5pm Tue-Sun)
, featuring changing exhibits of con-
temporary Northwest art.
To reach Bellevue from downtown Seattle, take I-90 east and exit on I-405 north-
bound. By bus, take 550 from Convention Pl or any of the 3rd Ave tunnel stations
($2.25).
North of Bellevue on I-405 is Kirkland, known for its lakefront business district, mari-
nas and antique shopping malls. Some of the best public access to Lake Washington is
along Lake Ave W. Lots of waterfront restaurants are found here, some with docks for
their boat-transported customers. East of Kirkland is Redmond, a sprawling suburb and
the center of Seattle's high-tech industry. To reach Kirkland and Redmond from central
Seattle, take Hwy 520 over the Evergreen Point Bridge or catch bus 251 along 4th Ave.
