highest annual snowfall of any ski resort in the world (640in), and as such holds
the world record for most snow in a season (1140in during the 1998-99 season).
Rightly famous for its powder, expert runs and backcountry, Baker is also home to

d Slalomevery February. The slalom started in 1985 and is
considered to be the first organized snowboarding competition in the world. Situ-
ated east of Bellingham, Mt Baker is about three hours' drive from Seattle.

9331 US Hwy 2)Stevens Pass is some 80 miles east, and slightly north, of Seattle.
The resort averages 450in of annual snowfall and is known for its wide variety of
terrain. It has everything from glades to bowls to bumps to an elaborate terrain
park, making it good for groups and families that vary in skill level. There's also a
huge lift-accessible 'backside' area that gives an awesome backcountry experien-
ce, and to top it all off it's 100% run by wind power.

try tours only. Acclaimed powder is accessed via snow cats that seat up to 12. Very
close to Crater Lake.

colder, drier snow. Located just outside Bend.
Mt Hood ( 503-337-2222; www.skihood.com ) Consists of three main resort
areas: Meadows, the biggest and most renowned; Timberline, with year-round ski-
ing; and Ski Bowl, the largest night-ski area in the US.
British Columbia
Big White Ski Resort ( 800-663-2772; www.bigwhite.com )Deep, dry powder
combined with terrain that pleases both skiers and snowboarders. Plenty of back-
country options.
Cypress Mountain ( 604-419-7669; www.cypressmountain.com ) Home to the
freestyle snowboarding park of the 2010 Winter Olympics, with great night skiing.
Whistler-Blackcomb ( 866-218-9690; www.whistlerblackcomb.com )Gigantic,
powder-laden resort that hosted the alpine events of the 2010 Winter Olympics. A
new gondola (over 4km long) connects the peaks of Whistler and Blackcomb
Mountains.
