Outdoor Activities
You may not need to sleep under the stars like trail hands did, but there's plenty
of reason to want to go outdoors in Texas. Hike and camp at the state's parks,
bird-watch and swim along the coast. And if you do want to play cowboy, go
horseback riding. Giddy-up!
What to Bring or Buy
Long-sleeved shirt Parts of Texas leave you exposed to the sun for hours at a time; a button-down shirt made out
of vented, sun-protectant material, like those from Columbia, is recommended.
Water sandals Protect your feet: whether it's for a day at the beach, hiking across rivers or traction while Jet Ski-
ing.
Sunscreen and sunglasses A must even if you're stepping outdoors for a second.
Mosquito spray You wouldn't believe how big those little buggers get here. Hiking, along the coast,
heck…everywhere: be prepared.
Orange clothing We can't say we recommend it, but if you're hiking in season where hunting is allowed, embrace
this universal symbol for 'I am not a game animal so please do not shoot me.'
