Growing Up with Football
A football as a baby gift may seem strange elsewhere, but not here. Kids start throwing the
ball around as soon as they can. Then follows the pee-wee leagues (ages 4 to 13) before
high-school ball.
Texan parents have been known to delay their sons' initial school enrollment by a year
(or even two); by the time these boys graduate from high school, logic goes, they'll be
older - but most importantly, bigger and brawnier - than their grade-level cohorts. Does it
guarantee that these boys will be NFL stars? No. But don't tell that to true believers.
