History
The Lone Star State was a cultural and political hotbed from the start, belonging to
several different colonial powers - and becoming its own country - before joining the
USA. Perhaps because of this, legend looms large in Texas history. Mention the Alamo
or the JFK assassination and you're bound to hear a variety of tales told, a mix of fact
and exaggerated fiction. Not surprising, really, in a state where the history is as iconic
as it is actual.
