Hilton Garden Inn

HOTEL $$
( 915-351-2121; www.hiltongardeninn.com ; 111 W University Ave; r $89-169; ) Opened at the
edge of the University of Texas in El Paso (UTEP), the Garden Inn was built to blend with
campus architecture. So, of course, it resembles a Bhutanese dzong (religious fortress) -
what else? (Architects thought the style would fit the desert- mountain landscape.) The in-
terior is more nice chain hotel than exotic monastery.

Casa de Suenos
( 575-874-9166; www.casaofdreams.com ; 405 Mountain Vista Rd S, La Union, NM; d $98-110; ) El Paso
may not have a bed-and-breakfast, but New Mexico does, and it's just 20 miles from
downtown. The decor is uber- Southwestern, but it's a serene retreat from the city.

Coral Motel

( 915-772-3263; fax 915-779-6053; 6420 Montana Ave; s/d $45/55; ) Anyone who loves 1950s road-
side nostalgia will feel right at home at this funky little motel that mixes genres wildly,
from the Spanish-style barrel-tile roof to the Jetsons-esque sign to the mishmash interiors.

El Paso Suites
MAP
( 915-779-6222; www.elpasosuiteshotel.com ; 6100 Gateway Blvd E; ste $80-120; ) This is the
only independent hotel in town - but it used to be an Embassy Suites, so the rooms still
have that generic chain-hotel feel. Still, it's a bargain, especially considering you get two
full rooms. Each suite opens onto an eight-story skylit atrium with iron balconies, which
does actually make up for the rooms quite a bit.
