5-9pm Sat, 9am-noon Sun) Located next to the Hotel Limpia - and ostensibly taking the place of
their much-missed dining room - Blue Mountain Bistro seems to be the only upscale din-
ing option in town. We don't know how they did it, but they also have the only bar in Jeff
Davis County - and it's a full bar at that! Good to know when a six pack from the grocery
store just won't do.
Information
On Sundays this sleepy little town takes a full day of rest; most of the businesses are
closed till Monday. To find out what's going on, visit the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce (

9am-5pm Mon-Fri) at the junction of Hwys 118 and
17.
You can get cash (even on Sunday) at Fort Davis State Bank ( 432-426-3211; 100 S State St) ,
which has a 24-hour ATM. Hook up to free wi-fi at the Jeff Davis County Library (
432-426-3802; 100 Memorial Sq; 10am-6pm Mon- Fri) - housed in the former county jail between
the town square and the courthouse - or at the Fort Davis Drug Store ( Click here ) .
Getting There & Around
No regularly scheduled public transportation serves Fort Davis or the Davis Mountains.
You can get to nearby Alpine (24 miles away) by train or bus, then rent a car. The closest

Marfa
POP 1981
The first thing you might wonder about Marfa is, 'Where did all these New Yorkers come
from?' and the second, 'What's the deal with James Dean?' Founded in the 1880s,
Marfa's two major cultural influences came in the latter part of the 20th century. It got its
first taste of fame when Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor and, yes, James Dean came to
town to film the 1956 Warner Brothers film Giant , and has since served as a film location
for movies such as There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men.
