In-Depth Information
( 432-371-3044; 100 Milagro Rd; food $2.50-6.50; 8am-2pm, to 1pm summer; ) We love this
friendly little walk-up counter at La Posada Milagro, where you can find pastries, break-
fast burritos, lunches and what might just be the best iced coffee in all of west Texas. Like
the casitas (cottages), the cafe incorporates stone ruins for an authentic ghost-town feel,
and the shady patio is a great place to soak up the ambience, make friends, fuel yourself
up and use the wi-fi.
Roadrunner Deli
( 432-371-2364; Study Butte Mall; menu items $3.50-7; 7:30am-2pm Tue-Sat) This deli, east of the
Hwy 118 and FM 170 intersection, specializes in packing tasty picnics for the Big
Bend-bound, and they also serve breakfast and lunch. There's a grocery store next door if
you need to supplement your supplies.

Starlight Theatre
( 432-371-2326; www.thestarlighttheatre.com ; 631 Ivey St; mains $9-25; 5pm-midnight) You'd think a
ghost town would be dead at night (pardon the pun), but the Starlight Theatre keeps things
lively. This former movie theater had fallen into roofless disrepair (thus the 'starlight'
name) before being converted into a restaurant. Monday nights are famous for two-for-
one burgers.
There's live music nearly every night in spring and fall, and if there's no entertainment
inside, there's usually someone strumming a guitar outside on the porch. To get there, take
Hwy 170 to the ghost town turnoff and follow the road to the end.

La Kiva Restaurant & Bar
( 432-371-2250; Hwy 170; mains $10-20; 5-10pm) Talk about your underground restaurants.
This quirky place specializing in barbecue and grilled meat is, literally, underground.
There's frequent live music, and a ridiculous happy hour from 5pm to 6pm where you can
score a draft beer for a buck. Although the kitchen closes at 10pm, the bar is open till mid-
night. It's about 3 miles west of Hwy 118.
BARBECUE $$
Tivo's Restaurant
( 432-371-2133; Hwy 118; meals $8-14; 5-9pm Wed-Sun) This family-run Mexican restaurant
gets nothing but kudos from locals. Try the spicy chile rellenos. They also serve gringo
fare.
