In-Depth Information
March
Spring wildflowers bloom, spreading from south to north. The weather across the
state is mild, making this a great time to stop by.
South by Southwest
One of the music industry's biggest annual events (SXSW; www.sxsw.com ). A couple
thousand performers, and a couple hundred-thousand visitors, besiege the city for five
days. The fun doesn't stop there; a concurrent film festival and techie show stretch the fest-
ivities to two weeks.
Spring Break
The spring break weeks vary across Texas, but they all fall in the month of March. South
Padre Island is the biggest party, by far. But other beaches, like those in Galveston, also
host events.
Cowboy Poetry Gathering
Relive the cattle-drive days out in the far west Texas town of Alpine. Start the morning
with a chuck-wagon breakfast and watch the old hands twirl their six-shooters and recite
witty, trail-inspired verse ( www.texascowboypoetry.com ).
Nacogdoches Azalea Trail
Each spring the historic east Texas town of Nacogdoches outlines more than 20 miles of
routes ( www.nacogdochesazaleas.com ) through the brilliantly blooming azaleas of the re-
gion.
