Loyola Beach
This unassuming Texas coastal village, 24 miles southeast of Kingsville, is home to anoth-
er one of those restaurants that causes people to detour in droves. King's Inn ( 361-297-5265;
1116 E County Rd 2270; mains from $10; 11am-10pm Tue-Sat) is a legendary place known for its vast
platters of fresh seafood, onion rings, avocado salad and more. About 15 miles south of
Kingsville look for FM 628 and go east 9 miles. Make reservations for dinner.
Sarita
This unassuming town 21 miles south of Kingsville on US 77 was once home to a family
empire that for a brief period rivalled that of the Kings. At the Kenedy Ranch Museum (
361-294-5751; www.kenedymuseum.org ; 200 E La Parra Ave; adult/child $3/2; 10am-4pm Tue-Sat, from noon
Sun) you can see how an empire was created and then lost between the 1850s and the
1960s. It's housed in the stout old ranch HQ.
