home atmosphere is worth the drive 15 miles west to Avinger. Everybody knows every-
body eating in here in these converted old wooden store buildings; you soon will, too.

kitschy delight: the old general store is crammed with a wacky array of Texas-themed
souvenirs. When you're done shopping, cool off with an ice cream or soda at the counter.

Jefferson is small, but Marshall TX (population 24,000) is only 15 miles south; it has all
the services you could need. Pick up your copy of the free seasonal town guide, the Jeffer-
sonian Magazine at area restaurants or the visitor center.
