KE Cellars ( http://kiepersol.com ; 54574 S Broadway Ave; 11am-9pm Wed-Sat) , the in-town store for
the local boutique winery, morphs into a tasting bar with live music evenings from 6pm to
9pm. If you have time, it's well worth visiting Kiepersol Estates Winery ( 903-894-8995;
www.kiepersol.com ; 4120 FM 344 E; tastings $1, tours $5; tasting room 11am-5pm, tours 2pm & 4pm Sat) itself,
15 miles southeast of downtown. Walk the mile-long vineyard trail, take a taste or a tour.
On Saturday their restaurant is open, above which two luxe B&B rooms perch.
Tyler is 90 miles east of Dallas, 205 miles northeast of Houston and 70 miles west of
Jefferson.
TOP OF CHAPTER
Canton
First Monday Trade Days ( http://firstmondaycanton.com ; admission free; dawn-dusk) have been taking
place in Canton since the 1850s. Today more than 5000 vendors gather the Thursday
through Sunday before every first Monday of the month. Peak summer weekends, more
than 100,000 visitors may attend this, the state's largest flea market. Exploring the more
than 100 acres can be daunting. Pick up or download a visitors guide, available from the
Canton Visitor Bureau ( www.visitcantontx.com ; 119 N Buffalo St;
9am-5pm Mon-Fri) , for a festival map
and service list.
Note that the many area B&Bs are usually booked up during Trade Days. Tyler is only
20 miles east and Dallas is 60 miles west.
The rest of the month, Canton is a sleepy little town with a pleasant courthouse square
and a few full-time shops. Our favorite is the Canton Dish Barn (208 W Dallas; 9am-4pm Mon-
Sat) selling Fiestaware exclusively. We've never seen so much colorful dishware in one
place.
