While you're in town, be sure to stop by Weikel's Bakery ( http://weikels.com ; 2247 W Hwy 71; pastries

savories, such as fruit jam or jalepeƱo sausage and cheese); they serve barbecue, too.
Less than two miles north of town you and the little ones can take a hay ride, milk a
cow and meet the herd that has starred in Blue Bell Creameries TV commercials at the Jer-

Chappell Hill
Talk about a one horse town. The historic area on Main St is hardly three blocks long. But
that is where you'll find Bever's Kitchen ( www.bevers-kitchen.com ; 5162 Main St; dishes $7-14;
11am-5pm Mon-Thu, 11am-8pm Fri, 11am-5pm Sat) , another classic country cafe. On weekends a
picker plays on the front porch while you eat your burgers and pie. Chappell Hill is known
for its locally made smoked sausage, which you can pick up at any one of the barbecue
joints along the highway.
Eight miles northeast of town, spring smells awfully sweet at the Chappell Hill Lavender
Farm ( www.chappellhilllavender.com ; 2250 Dillard Rd; admission free; 10am-2pm Fri, 9am-5pm Sat &
11am-5pm Sun Mar-Oct) , Here you can picnic, roam the fields and cut your own lavender - or
shop for related products in the gift shop.
