my! Food bloggers go crazy for this sleek but cheap eatery. Here they keep it simple and
sweet - pho, a smattering of rice and meat dishes, and the aforementioned, to-die-for Viet-
namese sandwiches.
Gatlin's
( www.gatlinsbbq.com ; 1221 W 19th St; sandwiches $6, mains $10-15; 11am-7pm Tue-Sat) Houston's best

Hard-partying bars and clubs are scattered around town, but to the youngish set, Wash-
ington Ave defines all that is hip and happening in Houston nightlife. Do ask around, the
club scene changes frequently and what was hot five minutes ago might not be today.
Note that some of Houston's most popular dance clubs are also GLBT venues.
A great way to avoid drinking and driving is by riding the Houston Wave ( Click here ) ,
a shuttle service that transports revelers on fixed routes around town.
