the mad traffic.
TOP OF CHAPTER
4 Houston Heights
B&B $$
Sycamore Heights
( 713-861-4117; www.sycamoreheights.com ; 245 W 18th St; r incl breakfast $120 ; ) Stay with-
in walking distance to the fun shops and restaurants of the Historic Heights. The
three rooms at in this large Arts and Crafts-era bungalow are all classically comfort-
able.
INN $$
Sara's Inn on the Boulevard
( 713-868-1130; www.saras.com ; 941 Heights Blvd; r incl breakfast $115-180; ) A Victorian
feels right at home among the historic houses of the Heights. Eleven airy rooms say
'boutique hotel' more than 'frilly B&B.' But the the inn still has the kind of sprawling
Southern porch that makes you want to gossip over mint juleps.
Eating
Houston's restaurant scene is smokin' hot - and we don't just mean the salsa. In fact,
Houstonians eat out more than residents of any other US city; the New York Times and
GQ Magazine have both touted the city's offerings. To keep abreast of what's in and what
isn't, we recommend Cook's Tour Blog ( www.29-95.com/alison-cook ) by Alison Cook, a fa-
vorite local food writer. The razor-tongued Fearless Critic ( www.fearlesscritic.com ) isn't bad
either. Twitterites can follow @eatdrinkhouston.
