HOUSTON IN…
Two Days
First up is the proper Texan way to start the day - with a breakfast taco, naturally. Hit up Tacos A Go Go ( Click
here ) in Midtown, before taking the light rail over to the Museum District . You're officially in museum mecca,
but it's overload to see them all in a day. Choose between the stunning Museum of Fine Arts Houston ( Click
here ) and the Houston Museum of Natural Science ( Click here ) , where you should head straight to the new Pale-
ontology Hall.
If you have kids in tow, spend the afternoon downtown at Discovery Green ( Click here ) ; this central city park
always has something going on. If you'd prefer a little retail therapy, go for the high fashion at the Galleria ( Click
here ). Culture mavens will have already gotten tickets for whatever's on at the Houston Grand Opera ( Click here )
or the Alley Theatre ( Click here ) that evening, in which case a post-show nightcap can be had at candlelit La
Carafe ( Click here ). Others should choose one of the many foodie-favorite restaurants, such as Indika ( Click
here ), Hugo's ( Click here ) or Underbelly ( Click here ). Hipsters could then head to Washington Avenue for some
bar-hopping.
Start day two with a big meal at Baby Barnaby's ( Click here ) in Houston's coolest neighborhood, Montrose .
Sated, take your time in the area - either strolling from the Menil Collection ( Click here ) to the Rothko Chapel
( Click here ) , or perusing the clothing shops on Westheimer or antiques on W Alabama. When it's time for an af-
ternoon refreshment, choose one of the open-air patios in Montrose or leafy Rice Village , and watch day turn into
night.
Four Days
Follow the above plan for the first 48 hours, and then fill up your tank with gas: we're hitting the road. Begin
your day at Midtown's legendary Breakfast Klub ( Click here ) for Southern wings 'n' waffles before driving to the
Clear Lake Area and Space Center Houston ( Click here ) to learn everything you ever wanted to know about
NASA and space travel. Spend the evening strolling and dining at the waterfront Kemah Boardwalk ( Click here ).
On day four, honestly, we'd consider going to Galveston ( Click here ). But If you want to stay local, head
downtown for a quick stroll around Market Square ( Click here ) and lunch at Treebeards ( Click here ). You haven't
seen half the exhibits in the Museum District, so you could double back there. Or go north to the Houston Heights
( Click here ) to admire the old homes, browse the eclectic shops and end up on another great patio, like the one at
Onion Creek Cafe ( Click here ). Later, for live music, Fitzgerald's ( Click here ) is close, but Rudyard's Pub ( Click
here ) or the Mucky Duck ( Click here ) really aren't far.
