splash in, outdoor art, restaurants and a performance space. The Green has become a hub
for fun festivals and activities such as ovies on the green, nighttime flea markets - even a

buildings on Market Sq, the historical center of Downtown, sharply contrast with their
modern surroundings. A few restaurants line the square and there's a cafe in the park. In
summer the small green space plays host to concerts and outdoor movies.

(1001 Commerce St) Named after Houston's founders, Allen's Landing marks the spot
on Buffalo Bayou where Houston's settlement began. The original wharf has been im-
proved with concrete paths and grassy lawns, and in the next few years an outdoor plaza
with a cafe and bike and boat rentals is slated to follow.

few historic homes that have been relocated to this park. Among them, the Yates House
(1870) is home of a freed slave who became a prominent local preacher, and the Old Place
(1823) is a log cabin thought to be the town's oldest. Guided tours get you inside, but you
