Sights
Despite Houston's general sprawl, most areas of interest for visitors lie north or south of
I-59, in the 10 miles between the Galleria area and the city center. Downtown has a few
parks and outdoor activities, but the largest concentration of attractions is off Main St, in
the Museum District.
Remember that shopping, eating and drinking in neighborhoods like eclectic Montrose
or the historic Heights ( Click here ) are also local attractions.
TOP OF CHAPTER
1 Downtown
You'll see few pedestrians braving the hot downtown sidewalks. No, they're not all at the
pool. Underground air-conditioned pedestrian tunnels link most downtown buildings. In
fact, those seeking necessities such as water and snacks may find them more easily within
the tunnel system than in streetside shops. (Yes, even McDonald's is underground.)
