There's also an excellent museum, the River Valley Pioneer Museum ( 806-323-6548; 118 N 2nd

Outside of town, a series of nature trails wander through the fertile countryside. In
spring people come from all over to see the rather comical mating habits of the prairie
chicken - antics worthy of an Animal Planet special.
Canadian is 100 miles northeast of Amarillo on US 60/83.

excitement of prairie-chicken mating at this restored motor court. The 29 rooms are basic
but clean and have fridges and microwaves.

the soda fountain lends scoopfuls of charm to this excellent cafe. The coffee is the best for
miles, as are the baked goods such as the chocolate cream pie. It has a small and changing
lunch menu each day.

maps for driving tours, walking tours of the historic downtown and hikes in the region.
