In-Depth Information
The cars are easily spotted off the access road on the south side of I-40. The accepted
practice today is to leave your own mark on the art by drawing on the disintegrating cars,
which gives them an ever-changing patina. Bring spray paint in case other visitors haven't
left any around.

little more excitement, then careening through the double loops of this park's Texas Tor-
nado roller coaster should shake you out of your lethargy. A fun local amusement park
(ignoring the hideous garden gnome mascot), Wonderland has thrill rides, family rides and
a water park. Check the online calendar for opening days and hours.
Amarillo Livestock Auction
MAP
( 806-373-7464; www.amarillolivestockauction.com ; 100 S Manhattan St; 10am Mon) A slice of the real
West is on display every Tuesday morning at the Amarillo Livestock Auction, just north
of SE 3rd Ave on the city's east side. The auction is still one of the state's largest, moving
more than 100,000 animals annually (down from its 1970s peak of 715,000).
Once the auction starts up things happen very quickly: cattle are herded in through one
pneumatic gate and out through another, and most animals sell within about 30 seconds.
The auctions draw few t ourists, but all are welcome. Grab lunch at the Stockyard Cafe.
