In-Depth Information
there's live entertainment. Come for a glass of wine, a snack, a meal or just to get down.
A Depot District fave.
Triple J Chop House & Brewery
( 806-771-6555; 1807 Buddy Holly Ave; mains from $12; 11am-10pm Mon-Thu, to midnight Fri & Sat) The
airy, exposed-brick dining room has a glass wall looking into a microbrewery. The White
Gold Cream and Sip-O-Whit outclass any of the domestic swills favored by locals. Steaks
live up to west Texas standards and there are also tasty alternatives with a Southwestern
flair.

Drinking & Nightlife
Go!, a free weekly by the town's wonderfully named newspaper, the Lubbock Avalanche-
Journal, has full listings of what's on.
The Depot District is Lubbock's nightlife HQ (fittingly, the namesake building at the
Buddy Holly Center looks hungover), and covers a few blocks adjoining Buddy Holly
Ave between 17th and 19th Sts. Otherwise, raucous bars, cheap burrito joints and plasma
dealers mark the classic college neighborhood where Broadway crosses University Ave
into the campus.
LIVE MUSIC
Blue Light
( 806-762-3688; www.thebluelightlive.com ; 1806 Buddy Holly Ave; noon-late) This legendary club
has plenty of live Texas country and rock. Watch for hall-of-famer Gary P Nunn.
Cactus Courtyard
( 806-535-5610; www.cactuscourtyard.com ; 1801 Buddy Holly Ave; 3pm-late Apr-Oct) Huge open-air
venue with west Texas music and all the domestic beers you can quaff.
BAR
Bash Riprock's
( 806-762-2274; 2491 Main St; 11am-2pm) Dark and grungy, and the huge beer selection gets
a workout during the 4 to 7pm happy hour.
BAR
Cricket's Grill & Draft House
( 806-744-4677; 2412 Broadway St; 11am-2am) A slightly more upscale college joint with a
huge selection of draft beer and all sorts of fried treats.
