Finding places to rope and ride is surprisingly difficult in Texas. Not so if you head
for Hill Country. The area around Bandera (

hosts more than a dozen dude (or
guest) ranches. Don't expect cattle drives; do expect daily horseback rides, hay wagons,
swimming holes, rodeos and at least one chuckwagon breakfast or outdoor barbecue per
stay. Although everything's included in the experience, be sure to take time to trot into
town where there are daily activities and two of the best cowboy bars around.
