The center also houses a fine arts gallery, a gift shop, and the Texas Musicians Hall of
Fame, which features ever-changing exhibitions on the music and musicians of Texas.
Buddy Holly Statue & Walk of Fame
(8th St at Ave Q) In front of the Civic Center, a larger-than-life-size statue of Holly is surroun-
ded by plaques honoring him and other west Texans who made it big in arts and entertain-
ment. Honorees include musicians Joe Ely, Roy Orbison, Bob Wills, Tanya Tucker and
Mac Davis.

Buddy Holly's Grave
(2011 E 31st St, east of Martin Luther King Jr Blvd; dawn-dusk) The headstone in the Lubbock City
Cemetery reads 'In Loving Memory of Our Own Buddy Holley. September 7, 1936 to
February 3, 1959.' Musical notes and an electric guitar are engraved on the marker too.
Some visitors leave guitar picks, coins and other tokens. The cemetery is located on the
eastern edge of town. Once inside the gate, turn down the lane to your right.

University. Established in 1925, this is not the place to see Gothic treasures of academic
architecture, but it is a big and busy place during school terms.

National Ranching Heritage Center
MUSEUM

bock gem, this open-air museum, part of the Texas Tech museum complex, tells a detailed
story of what life was like on the Texas High Plains from the late 1700s until the Dust
Bowl era of the 1930s. Nearly 50 preserved ranch structures are arrayed on 16 acres.
Among the highlights are the gun ports on the 1780 Los Corralitos house, the second-
story stronghold on the 1872 Jowell House and the grand 1909 Barton House.

seum, which has more than five million items in its rather eclectic collection. Special ex-
hibits are usually the highlights.
