Junction
POP 2600
Winding through the lush and beautiful South Llano River valley, US 377 is light on
traffic but big on vistas on its 100-mile route southwest from the pretty little town of Junc-
tion toward the border and Del Rio.
Junction proper has a few places where you can get organized for a rafting trip on the
river. Or you can go hiking and spot deer, squirrels and the iconic Rio Grande turkey in
South Llano River State Park (
24hr) .

It's also ideal for a picnic, a swim or a stroll.
An old gas station is home to one of the region's best barbecue joints. Lum's (
325-446-3541; 2031 Main St; mains from $8; 8am-11pm Mon-Sat) has the requisite dining area
cluttered with high school team pennants and Bud signs. Amid a classic menu, the ribs,
brisket, jalapeno sausage and potato salad earn raves.
WORTH A TRIP
FRIO CANYON
Since prehistoric times, humans have been enjoying the beauty of the Frio River and its lovely canyon and valley.

more than a crossroads, but what a crossroads! US 83 follows the river north and south, while FM 337 runs east
and west through wooded hills and secluded little valleys.
