5-9pm Tue-Fri, 5-9pm Sat) Located in a beautiful 1920s house near downtown, this refined res-
taurant is just the place if you'd like some fine wine to go with a meal from a menu that
changes with the seasons. Creative mains of steak and seafood are always listed and
there's a touch of the Mediterranean throughout. The desserts are simply fab.
Jason Helfer, the talented chef, also assembles the best deli sandwiches and salads in
town at lunch. With the lavish desserts (including bread pudding and key lime pie), you
can have a picnic across the street in beautiful rose gardens.
Miss Hattie's Café & Saloon
( 325-653-0570; 26 E Concho Ave; mains from $8; 11am-8pm Mon-Sat, but hours can vary) This place
tips its hat to the bordello museum up the block, with early-20th-century decor featuring
tapestries and gilt-edged picture frames. However, the tasty meat is the main attraction,
especially the hunk of seasoned beef grilled into a hamburger and finished with an array
of yummy toppings.

Sealy Flats
( 325-653-1400; www.sealyflats.com ; 208 S Oakes St; 11am-late) A real find if you want to hear
live blues. There's open-mike night on Monday, local acts the rest of the week and usually
well-known blues musicians on weekends. The back terrace is where it's at. Get a brew
and enjoy the jammin'.

San Angelo is well known for the pearls that form in the Concho River. These precious
orbs occur naturally - and they're not just any pearls. They come in shades of pink and
purple, usually in pastels but occasionally in vivid shades.
Historic Concho Ave has antique shops and vintage-clothing stores.
