one Texas 'cue joint, this would do. Line your platter with wax paper and tell the cook
what to pile on (the brisket is divine). Add sides such as potato salad, then head to the
amazing bar where you can get beans, pickles and an ocean of sauces. And the peach cob-
bler? Dang! This rambling place is east of town, just off I-20 at exit 138.

It looks so sprightly from the
outside that this upscale burger joint, all retro chrome inside, could be a chain, but it's not.
The burgers are excellent and come in myriad forms (including a great salmon burger).
Zippy touches abound, such as serving aioli with the onion rings.

In an upscale little shopping plaza north of town, the Garlic Press is one of the
more stylish places in town. Med-style fare is best enjoyed outside under the shady trees.
There's an array of steaks with a variety of preparations and, yes, there's warm bread
served with roasted garlic.

Getting There & Around
Fittingly for oil towns, Midland and Odessa are nearly impossible to navigate without a
car.
Midland International Airport

sits midway between Mid-
land and Odessa near exit 126 on I-20 and TX 191. The airport is served by American
Eagle (Dallas-Fort Worth), Southwest (Dallas, Houston and Las Vegas) and United Ex-
press (Denver and Houston).
For a long-distance bus service, you'll need to use Greyhound in Odessa.
