the Baylor campus, this peaceful refuge of a museum houses a beautiful collection of
stained glass, as well as the world's largest collection of original manuscripts and personal
effects of the Romantic English poets Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Don't miss
the 'sunrise-sunset' windows in the gorgeous Foyer of Meditation.

Dr Pepper Museum

Sun; ) The Dr Pepper soft drink was invented by Waco pharmacist Charles C Alderton
in 1885. This museum celebrates his creation and is housed in a stately brick building that
was one of company's first facilities.
The collection is vast and offers a fascinating look at one of the few companies (includ-
ing Coca-Cola!) to survive from the days when pharmacists created hundreds of soft
drinks nationwide. There is a small, old-style soda fountain (admission not required)
where you can get sodas and other treats.
Cameron Park & Zoo
( 254-750-8400; 1701 N 4th St; adult/child $9/6; 9am-5pm Mon-Sat, 11am-5pm Sun; ) Hills, lime-
stone cliffs and 20 miles of trails make this park a great place for hiking and mountain
biking.
At the eastern end of the park, the Cameron Park Zoo features 52 acres of natural habit-
at. A Texas section with about 30 native species balances an impressive range of African
animals, including elephants, white rhinos and giraffes.

Waco Mammoth Site

9am-5pm Sat) In 1978 two Waco arrowhead hunters found a bone in a ravine. It turned out to
belong to a Columbian mammoth that had perished there about 68,000 years ago. Now
open to the public after 30 years of excavation, the Waco Mammoth Site features the na-
tion's only recorded discovery of a herd of Pleistocene mammoths.
