DALLAS ARCHITECTURE
The Dallas skyline has long been one of the most vibrant in the USA, and it's getting more interesting all the
time. Sleek contemporary designs mix with buildings inspired by French neoclassicism. Some buildings to look
out for include the following:
Magnolia Petroleum Company Building MAP GOOGLE MAP (1401 Commerce St) The red neon pegasus be-
came a symbol of Dallas when it first flew atop this building in 1934. It disappeared for decades before re-emer-
ging atop the newly renovated building, now a hotel, in 1999.
Bank of America Plaza MAP GOOGLE MAP (901 Main St) One of the tallest buildings in Texas, this modern-
ist skyscraper is outlined each night in cool green argon tubing which plays well with all the other colored-by-
night buildings downtown.

noon-6pm Sun; ; light rail St Paul) The biggest addition yet to the Arts District, this striking
museum opened in 2012. It wows both on the outside (thanks to award-winning architect
Thom Mayne) and on the inside (there are six floors of wonder). Most of the exhibits are
interactive - visitors can design their own bird, journey through the solar system, com-
mand robots and much more.
The building is designed to be environmentally sound, and this feature is explained in
detail. It also has a 3D theater with ever-changing movies.
